ITV’s latest commission, Frauds, is now in pre-production and gearing up for filming, with an impressive lineup of talent on board. Created by Suranne Jones and Anne-Marie O’Connor, the six-part thriller will be produced by Monumental Television in association with TeamAkers. Starring BAFTA and RTS award-winning actresses Suranne Jones and Jodie Whittaker, the project promises to bring an electrifying mix of crime, suspense, and deeply layered character dynamics to the screen.
The story follows Sam, played by Jodie Whittaker, who has spent the last decade in quiet anonymity in Southern Spain, while Bert, played by Suranne Jones, has just been released from a maximum-security prison after serving time for fraud. While Sam has worked to leave their past behind, Bert’s release brings old tensions and unresolved conflicts back to the surface. Now facing a terminal illness, Bert convinces Sam to join her for one last con—an audacious, high-stakes art heist that could either set them free or destroy them both.
With filming set to take place in the picturesque and rugged terrain of Southern Spain, the production is moving forward under the direction of Giulia Gandini, whose work on The Split and Shetland has demonstrated a keen eye for tension and drama. Pat Tookey-Dickson is producing, bringing expertise from Toxic Town, Maryland, 1899, and Ghosts. Executive producers include Alison Owen, Katie Kelly, Debra Hayward, Alison Carpenter, and Jill Forbes, alongside Anne-Marie O’Connor and Suranne Jones.
The script, written by O’Connor, is expected to offer a fresh take on female-driven narratives within the heist genre, emphasizing the emotional complexity and tension between the two protagonists. The project is already attracting industry attention due to its blend of high-concept storytelling and compelling character development.
For filmmakers, Frauds presents a strong example of how genre storytelling can be infused with character-driven drama, creating a unique and layered narrative. The production’s commitment to shooting in a visually striking location, combined with its emphasis on strong performances and sharp writing, makes it a standout project in the current landscape. As the team prepares to bring Frauds to life, this is a production worth keeping an eye on, both for its creative vision and for the opportunities it presents to industry professionals looking to collaborate on ambitious storytelling.
