Golden Globe winner Idris Elba (Luther: The Fallen Son, Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw) is set to lead Hammer Down, an intense action-thriller that’s generating buzz ahead of the American Film Market next week. The project will be introduced internationally by Black Bear, promising to be a standout title on the market.
Elba will also produce through his 22 Summers banner, joining a powerhouse team that includes Oscar winner Charles Roven (Oppenheimer, The Dark Knight trilogy) and Madison Weireter (Justice League) from Atlas Entertainment, alongside Gina Carter (See How They Run).
Simon Hatt, known for his work as co-producer on Suicide Squad and executive producer on Guardians of the Galaxy, is stepping into the director’s chair. Hatt also penned the screenplay for Hammer Down, which is based on his original short film, bringing a unique vision to this action-packed story.
The film follows Mac, portrayed by Elba, a top-tier big rig driver who specializes in no-questions-asked deliveries across the country. When Mac reluctantly takes his headstrong teenage daughter along for a job, the two find themselves hunted by a relentless group of criminals determined to seize the mysterious cargo. With killers on their trail and law enforcement closing in, father and daughter must rely on each other to outwit their pursuers, protect the cargo, and survive a high-stakes race for their lives.
Elba’s packed schedule further cements his status as one of Hollywood’s most sought-after stars. He’s gearing up for the second season of Apple’s Hijack and major roles in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Kathryn Bigelow’s untitled White House thriller, and Amazon’s Heads of State.
On the producing side, Roven has an equally impressive slate, including Amazon MGM’s Mercy, Cary Fukunaga’s 77 Blackout, and a Cleopatra project with Gal Gadot.
Hammer Down marks an exciting collaboration between top-tier talent in front of and behind the camera. With Elba’s star power, Hatt’s fresh perspective, and a gripping premise, this action-thriller promises to deliver adrenaline-fueled entertainment.
Keep an eye out for updates on production and release dates as this high-octane film hits the fast lane.
