UK-based VFX and animation powerhouse Jellyfish Pictures has announced the launch of a new VFX production outpost in Toronto, marking a significant expansion of its international footprint. This move follows the company’s recent establishment of operations in India last spring.
By setting up a base in Canada, Jellyfish Pictures aims to leverage the country’s pool of top-tier VFX talent. The company emphasized that this expansion will enable them to collaborate more closely with the best global artists available. “I am thrilled for us to expand our VFX division into Canada,” said Phil Greenlow, Managing Director of VFX. “Jellyfish Pictures is powered by a global community of amazing artists. Since some of the world’s finest VFX talent is concentrated in Toronto, it’s the obvious next stop on our international road map. Coupled with the recent influx of production activity in Ontario, we can’t wait for our team to create compelling visual effects in this vibrant location.”
CEO David Patton echoed this sentiment, highlighting the strategic timing of the expansion. “It’s an exciting time for Jellyfish Pictures, as we continue to grow our talented team of creatives and further expand our operations globally. We opened our 200-seat Mumbai studio at the end of last year and believe now is the right time for us to establish a strong presence in the Canadian market.”
Jellyfish Pictures has a stellar reputation for delivering high-quality visual effects and animation. Their recent VFX credits include notable feature films such as The Creator and Asteroid City, as well as television projects like The Gentlemen and Constellation. The company also worked on the Oscar-winning live-action short, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.
Looking ahead, Jellyfish Pictures has several high-profile projects slated for 2024. These include Ellen Kuras’ Lee, starring Kate Winslet, Netflix’s Kaos, and the much-anticipated fantasy adventure series Nautilus.
This expansion into Toronto underscores Jellyfish Pictures’ commitment to accessing and nurturing the best creative talent globally, ensuring they remain at the forefront of the VFX and animation industry.
