The story centers on a Chinese couple, divorced for 10 years, who come together again in Paris to organize the funeral of their only son. In this unfamiliar country, they are compelled to live under the same roof once more. As they seek to understand the reasons behind their son’s death, they confront their past. The title 49 jours refers to the grieving period of Chinese funeral rites, symbolizing seven cycles of seven days each.
