In the 14th century, Prince Prospero’s kingdom is devastated by the Red Death, a swift and deadly virus. To protect the aristocracy, Prospero seals the kingdom, branding the plague a “peasant disease.” His sister, Duchess Margarita, opposes this cruel isolation, leading to her exile. In the wilderness, Margarita meets Isabel, her long-lost twin, born of a chambermaid and presumed dead. Tragedy strikes as Margarita succumbs to the Red Death, prompting Isabel and her daughter, Rose, to seek refuge within the kingdom’s walls. Assuming Margarita’s identity, Isabel enters the castle with Rose posing as her savior. Prospero welcomes his “sister” back, but Isabel soon discovers Margarita was despised, and enemies lurk around every corner. Navigating royal politics, Isabel uncovers a web of betrayal and brutality, culminating in Prospero’s macabre display of power. Confronted with deception and death, she wonders if life beyond the walls, amidst the plague, might offer a more humane fate.
