Set in the mid 1990’s, a Japanese Canadian woman grappling with the recent death of her mother brings her family to a self-development retreat. Prompted by the disconnect in her marriage, Judith goes with her husband Steve to a counseling retreat, where they also take their two children, 11 year old Stephanie and 6 year old Emmy. It’s a difficult couple of weeks for everyone, as they grapple with deep seated fears and the complexity of love.
