Westworld
Project Summary
Warner Bros. is developing a feature film remake of Westworld, the 1973 Michael Crichton-written-and-directed sci-fi Western. Screenwriter David Koepp has been hired to script the project, which returns to Crichton's original film rather than continuing the recently canceled HBO series. The remake follows guests at an adult fantasy park themed to the Old West, where humanoid robots allow visitors to live out cowboy fantasies until a malfunction causes the androids to attack for real. Koepp is basing his script directly on the 1973 film, which starred Yul Brynner, Richard Benjamin, and James Brolin. Reports indicate a major filmmaker is circling the project, though no director has been formally attached. The film is in early development, with Warner Bros. navigating its ongoing corporate transition amid the Paramount Skydance acquisition.
