The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is the United Kingdom's primary national public service broadcaster, headquartered at Broadcasting House in London. Established in 1922 as the British Broadcasting Company and rechartered in its current form on 1 January 1927, it is the world's oldest and one of the largest broadcasters by staff, with approximately 21,000 employees. Funded principally by an annual television licence fee, the BBC produces and distributes television, radio, and digital content across the UK and internationally through its commercial arm BBC Studios (formerly BBC Worldwide), reaching hundreds of millions of people globally through channels including BBC World News, BBC iPlayer, BBC Sounds, and the BBC World Service. The corporation is renowned for landmark productions including Doctor Who, Planet Earth, Sherlock, Peaky Blinders, and a wide range of world-class news, drama, comedy, and natural history programming.
