About
The Midtown International Theatre Festival (MITF) is New York City's largest independent theatre festival, founded in 2000 by John Chatterton as a Midtown counterpart to downtown's Fringe Festival. Running for 18 seasons before a hiatus in 2018, it pioneered a festival model of shared theater rental and box office revenue that has influenced festivals worldwide. The festival was revived for 2026 in partnership with Jay Michaels Global Communications, hosted at the American Theatre of Actors (ATA) from June 15–July 26, 2026, featuring plays, musicals, solo shows, cabaret, a short play lab, and an inaugural film festival component.
