About
The New Zealand Film Commission (NZFC; Māori: Te Tumu Whakaata Taonga) is a New Zealand Crown entity and government agency established under the New Zealand Film Commission Act 1978 to fund, develop, produce, promote, and distribute New Zealand films. It provides grants, loans, and equity financing for feature films and short films, administers government incentive schemes including the New Zealand Screen Production Grant and Post, Digital and Visual Effects Grant, and certifies official co-productions and New Zealand films for tax purposes. Over more than 40 years, NZFC has been involved in over 300 feature films — including The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Avatar, Whale Rider, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, and Tinā — and actively markets New Zealand as a world-class international production destination. The Commission also supports talent development, international co-production treaties, and New Zealand filmmakers' global careers.
