SYFY is an American basic cable television channel and global multiplatform media brand that super-serves passionate fans with scripted science fiction, fantasy, paranormal, superhero, and horror programming, along with late-night animation and live event coverage. Originally launched on September 24, 1992 as the Sci-Fi Channel, it was rebranded as Syfy in 2009. As of 2026, the network is owned by Versant, an independently traded media company spun off from Comcast/NBCUniversal, which also includes USA Network, E!, Oxygen, CNBC, and Golf Channel. Syfy reaches approximately 69 million pay television households in the United States and ranked as a Top 10 cable network in 2024.
