UGC

UGC (Union Générale Cinématographique) is one of Europe's largest cinema operators and a major French audiovisual production and distribution group, founded in 1946 and headquartered in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. The group operates approximately 48 cinemas (521 screens) in France and 7 cinemas (74 screens) in Belgium, including the world's busiest single cinema by attendance — UGC Ciné Cité Les Halles in Paris. Beyond exhibition, UGC produces and distributes a wide range of films — from mainstream French comedies to acclaimed auteur works — and is the 4th largest fiction production group in France by broadcast hours. In October 2025, Canal+ acquired a 34% stake in UGC, with a call option to acquire full control after 2028.
