About

Ang Lee (born October 23, 1954, Pingtung County, Taiwan) is a Taiwanese-American film director, producer, and screenwriter widely regarded as one of the most versatile and acclaimed filmmakers of his generation. He is a two-time Academy Award winner for Best Director (Brokeback Mountain, 2005; Life of Pi, 2012), a two-time DGA Award winner, a two-time Golden Lion winner at Venice, and a two-time Golden Bear winner at Berlin โ€” the only filmmaker to have achieved the latter distinction. His work spans an extraordinary range of genres and cultures, from the Taiwanese 'Father Knows Best' trilogy to Sense and Sensibility, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Hulk, and technological innovators Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk and Gemini Man. In 2025 he received the DGA Lifetime Achievement Award, and as of May 2026 he is actively in production on Gold Mountain, an epic western period film shooting in Northern California.
