Jonathan Murray Chu (born November 2, 1979) is an American filmmaker and USC School of Cinematic Arts alumnus best known for directing Crazy Rich Asians (2018), Wicked (2024), and Wicked: For Good (2025). His films are celebrated for their high-energy visual style, vibrant musical elements, and themes of cultural identity and community. For Wicked, he won the National Board of Review Award and Critics' Choice Award for Best Director, and the film earned 10 Oscar nominations and won two Academy Awards. He heads his multi-media production company Electric Somewhere and as of January 2026 holds a three-year first-look producing deal at Paramount Skydance.
