Michael Kenneth Mann (born February 5, 1943, Chicago, Illinois) is an American film director, screenwriter, and producer widely regarded as one of the most innovative and influential filmmakers in American cinema. Best known for his stylized crime dramas, he is a four-time Academy Award nominee, two-time Emmy Award winner, and recipient of DGA, WGA, and BAFTA recognition, with landmark films including Heat (1995), The Insider (1999), Collateral (2004), and Ferrari (2023). He has been a DGA member since 1977, executive produced the iconic TV series Miami Vice, and most recently is attached to direct Heat 2, set up at United Artists (Amazon MGM) with filming targeted for August 2026. In 2024, Mann launched michaelmannarchives.com, a state-of-the-art interactive website offering unprecedented access to his creative and directorial process.
