Oliver Hermanus is a South African writer-director born in Cape Town in 1983, whose features have competed at Cannes, Venice, and Sundance and established him as a major voice in global arthouse cinema. His films include Beauty (2011, Queer Palm winner at Cannes), Moffie (2019), Living (2022, two Academy Award nominations and four BAFTA nominations), the television miniseries Mary & George (2024, Sky/AMC), and The History of Sound (2025, competed for the Palme d'Or at Cannes). He became a DGA member in 2024 and is currently in active development on an Alexander McQueen biopic for Pathé, with a screenplay by Harry Lighton.
