Project Summary
Antigone: In the Language of Kings is an adaptation of the famous tragedy by Sophocles about a young woman who defies her uncle King Krión to bury her fallen brother despite his stubborn devotion to country and familial law clashes with the state, sparking a devastating chain of events that leaves her and the King's family destroyed. Set in the vibrant world of pre-conquest Tenochtitlan, Mexico, this powerful reimagining of a classic tragedy confronts themes of loyalty, familial duty, and the clash between divine law and state edict. Woven in pre-Hispanic music and poetry, this timeless story brings Aztec mythology to life in a rich historical tapestry that resonates across cultures, pitting love and defiance against tyranny. Written by Sophocles, adapted by Evelina Fernández, directed by José Luis Valenzuela. Some rehearsals may also take place at the Los Angeles Theatre Center. Network/Studio: Getty Villa (J.
