Chicha Fantasy
Project Summary
Chicha Fantasy marks the third feature from Bolivian writer-director Alvaro Olmos Torrico, following his award-winning The Condor Daughter. The project brings together Bolivia's Empatia Cinema and Peru's Ayara Producciones as co-producers, with co-production talks underway with Uruguayan and European companies. Producers include Olmos Torrico, Iris Ocampo, Diego Sarmiento, and Cecilia Sueiro. Inspired by real events, the film centers on fifteen-year-old Mirelli, a Quechua shepherd who joins her late sister's band Fantasia Chicha to investigate suspicious circumstances surrounding her death. The project has participated in the BAL-LAB laboratory at the Biarritz Latin American Film Festival, receiving an award for French screenplay translation and equipment services support from France's Assistance Audiovisuelle. It also recently participated in Cinema in Development at Cinelatino Toulouse 2026. Like Olmos Torrico's previous work, the film explores Indigenous perspectives and incorporates Quechua and Aymara languages.
