Project Summary
On February 8, 1977, real estate developer Tony Kiritsis, 44, held Meridian Mortgage Company President Richard O. Hall hostage with a sawed-off shotgun. Kiritsis rigged the shotgun to Hall's neck with a "deadman's switch." Surrounded by police and journalists, Kiritsis forced Hall through downtown streets in freezing weather, later taking a police car to Kiritsis' apartment. Claiming the apartment was rigged with explosives, Kiritsis confined Hall in the bathroom, holding him captive for nearly 63 hours.
