Edge of Tomorrow 2 is moving closer to production after more than a decade in development. Tom Cruise returns as Major William Cage alongside Emily Blunt as Sergeant Rita Vrataski, with Doug Liman back in the director's chair. The project is part of Cruise's 2024 partnership deal with Warner Bros. , which has prioritized the sequel as the studio's only Cruise-owned IP. Christopher McQuarrie and Matthew Robinson have both worked on the screenplay at various stages. According to Production Weekly, the film is eyeing a late 2026 production start, though Warner Bros. has not issued a formal greenlight. Liman and Cruise recently rewatched the original film and confirmed their enthusiasm for the sequel, which Liman has promised will revolutionize the sequel format. The original 2014 film became a cult favorite after its theatrical run despite modest box office returns.
