Scapegoat

Scapegoat marks the fifth collaboration between writer-director Ari Aster and A24, reuniting the Hereditary and Midsommar filmmaker with the indie studio following last year's Eddington. Scarlett Johansson leads the project after being Aster's first choice for the role, with production accommodating her busy schedule. Aster penned the original screenplay and will produce alongside his longtime partner Lars Knudsen through their Square Peg banner. The plot remains tightly under wraps, though Aster previously mentioned considering a horror film, sci-fi adaptation, or spiritual sequel to Eddington as potential next projects. Production is eyeing a late 2026 start to work around Johansson's commitments to Mike Flanagan's The Exorcist and The Batman Part II, with filming planned for fall 2026.
