Terms of Endearment
Project Summary
Terms of Endearment is back in motion after nearly a decade in development at Paramount Pictures. Lee Daniels will direct from a screenplay by Evan Dodson, with Oprah Winfrey attached to star as Aurora Greenway, the role that won Shirley MacLaine an Oscar in the 1983 original. The remake reimagines the mother-daughter drama with a Black family navigating the 1980s and 1990s, centering on themes within the Black community including the AIDS crisis. After years of dormancy, the project has been revived under Paramount's new leadership. Production is eyeing a June 2026 start in Spain, with Paramount holding the rights since 2017. Winfrey and Daniels previously collaborated on The Butler, and this marks another reunion for the pair on a character-driven family drama.
