The X-Files (Reboot)
Project Summary
The X-Files returns to television with a pilot order from Hulu, written and directed by Ryan Coogler fresh off his Oscar-winning success with Sinners. Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel star as two new FBI agents—not rebooted versions of Mulder and Scully—assigned to investigate paranormal cases. Jennifer Yale serves as showrunner, with Chris Carter, the original series creator, executive producing alongside Coogler and his Proximity Media partners Sev Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler. The pilot began production in May 2026 in Vancouver, the same city where the original series shot its first five seasons, with cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw and casting director Francine Maisler joining Coogler's team. Guest stars include recent Oscar winner Amy Madigan, Steve Buscemi, Ben Foster, Devery Jacobs, Tantoo Cardinal, and Lochlyn Munro. The pilot is produced by Onyx Collective and 20th Television under Coogler's overall deal with Disney, with a full series order dependent on the pilot's performance.
