White Smoke is in development as a television series at A24 UK, with Benedict Cumberbatch attached to star and produce through his SunnyMarch production company. The series is adapted from Nick Brucker's upcoming novel, a pseudonym for speculative fiction writer Nicholas Binge. A24 UK optioned the rights after a competitive bidding process involving more than a dozen suitors. The property generated significant industry interest despite the source novel not publishing until 2027. The book is the first in a planned series, which influenced the decision to pursue a television adaptation rather than a film. No network, showrunner, or production timeline has been announced.
