Cathay Film Company is a Singapore-based independent production company founded in 2020 by industry veteran Meileen Choo, former CEO and current Chairman of the Cathay Organisation Group of Companies. The company focuses on international scripted drama with a pan-Asian and global perspective. Its debut production, 'Coolie,' is an eight-episode English- and Chinese-language limited series about enslaved Chinese workers in 1860s Cuba, directed by Arvin Chen and featuring a multinational cast from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Cuba, and Colombia. The company draws on Choo's family legacy in Southeast Asian cinema dating back to the Cathay Organisation's founding in 1935.
