HBO Documentary Films

HBO Documentary Films is the in-house non-fiction production and distribution division of HBO, producing between 10 and 15 documentary features and limited series per year for the network, with select titles receiving limited theatrical releases prior to their HBO broadcast. The division is widely regarded as the gold standard for documentary television, having accumulated dozens of Oscar wins, Peabody Awards, and Emmy Awards over its history. Currently co-led by EVPs Nancy Abraham and Lisa Heller since 2018, the unit covers a broad range of subjects including true crime, social justice, music, sports, and politics. It is a division of Home Box Office, Inc., a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery.
