David Ayer (born January 18, 1968) is an American filmmaker specializing in gritty action, crime, and military dramas. He broke through as a screenwriter with Training Day (2001) — for which Denzel Washington won the Best Actor Oscar — and The Fast and the Furious (2001), before establishing himself as a director with End of Watch (2012), Fury (2014), and Suicide Squad (2016). He is the co-founder of Cedar Park Entertainment, his active production company, and most recently directed A Working Man (2025) starring Jason Statham and is attached to direct Heart of the Beast for Paramount starring Brad Pitt.
