It’s the summer of 1968 & three young African American girls, raised in a strict but loving home by their father and grandmother in New York, are sent away for a month to live with their mother Nzila in Oakland California. Nzila is a firebrand poet who has rejected Motherhood, for the Cause. It’s a coming-of-age summer, especially for 11 year old Delphine, who, for the first time in her life, is exposed to revelations about her Mother, & a quickly changing world.
