Zona Merah: Dead City
Project Summary
Zona Merah: Dead City is currently in production as a feature film adaptation of the Indonesian zombie horror series that drew over 34 million views on the Vidio streaming platform. Co-directed by Sidharta Tata and Fajar Martha Santosa, the creators behind the original series, the film expands the story beyond the fictional town of Rimbalaya as the outbreak spreads to a second city. Produced by Indonesia's Screenplay Films, the project has brought on Barunson E&A—the Korean production banner behind Parasite—to handle international sales, with a launch planned at the Cannes Marché du Film in May 2026. Principal photography began on April 7, 2026, with filming continuing through May in Indonesia, including locations in Yogyakarta. Tata returns as screenwriter while Santosa oversees story development, with much of the original cast reprising their roles alongside new additions. The production marks Barunson's continued investment in Southeast Asian genre cinema.
